Key security features of a genuine HSRP

A High Security Registration Plate is made of 1mm aluminium with rounded borders, featuring a chromium-based Ashoka Chakra hologram hot-stamped on the top left. On the bottom left, a permanent 10-digit PIN laser code is etched and mapped directly into the Parivahan Vahan database.

Plates are secured to the vehicle with non-reusable snap-lock rivets that break upon any attempt at unauthorized removal, preventing vehicle cloning and plate theft.

Color-coded third registration sticker categories

The color-coded sticker is applied to the bottom-left inner side of the front windshield. It contains registration details, engine and chassis numbers, and fuel classification for automated optical enforcement during environmental smog alerts.

In Delhi-NCR and Karnataka, automated ANPR cameras issue e-challans automatically to vehicles detected with fancy, distorted or non-HSRP number plates.

Questions about this check

Can I buy an HSRP number plate from a local roadside shop?

No. Plates made by roadside shops lack the mandatory 10-digit laser PIN mapped into the Vahan database and are deemed illegal, attracting fines under Section 192.

What should I do if an HSRP plate is damaged or lost?

For a lost plate, file an online lost article report / FIR with local police. Then book a replacement plate on your state's authorized HSRP portal using your vehicle number and chassis number.
