Search once, then review each record
Open Challan Search, enter the complete registration number and choose Get challan details. After the background security check, the available records are grouped by status. Dated records appear with the latest first inside each group.
Keep the challan number handy. A vehicle can have several records with similar amounts, so matching only the number plate or fine value can lead you to the wrong entry. Open longer offence descriptions when you need the complete text.
- Registration number: does the record identify your vehicle?
- Challan reference: is it the entry you are checking?
- Date and location: do they match the notice?
- Amount and status: what does this individual record show?
Read status labels with their context
An overview can lag behind an update or omit records that the source does not cover. If an important decision depends on the status, use the current official record rather than treating a summary total as a final finding.
| Label in the report | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Pending | Review the record and verify it before taking action. |
| Paid | Match the reference to the receipt or transaction you recognise. |
| Disposed | Check the authority’s record for the outcome; do not infer a payment from the label alone. |
| No records returned | The provider did not return records; this is not a universal clearance certificate. |
Find the current official payment route
The MoRTH eChallan page provides status and payment-verification options and currently directs many states to the NextGen eChallan portal. Follow the notice for the relevant jurisdiction. Enter an official address directly instead of trusting an unfamiliar payment link in a message.
Vehicle Details does not collect challan payments. If the official record refers to Virtual Court, follow its instructions and avoid paying the same challan on two portals.
If a challan does not look right
Keep the reference, the notice and a short explanation of the mismatch. Check which authority issued it before choosing a grievance route. A support request is easier to assess when it identifies one record and one issue clearly.
If you already paid, first compare the challan reference with your receipt. A payment made for a different record will not settle the entry you are looking at. See our separate guide for a paid challan still showing pending.
Questions about this check
Can I check a bike challan here?
Yes. Use the bike’s full registration number. Results depend on the records returned for that vehicle.
Can I pay a challan on Vehicle Details?
The site provides a lookup and links to official services. It does not take payment or issue a challan-payment receipt.
Is no challan found proof that there are no fines?
No. It describes the result returned by the connected source. Check the relevant official service for confirmation.
